LIVING THE GOOD LIFE -- MAINE STYLE!!
Over the past year, the Louisiana SPCA has given our animals a
“second chance” at finding forever homes with our Caravans of
Love. These caravans have actually been managed transports where
some of our adoptable animals have been transported to shelters
such as the Houston SPCA, SPCA of Texas and the Humane Society
of Knox County in Maine. Almost 40 animals have thus far gone to
Maine and all have found wonderful homes there. As we often like
to say, before they even have a chance to unpack their bags, our
wonderful adoptable dogs our picking up their suitcases and
running into the arms of loving owners and forever homes.

One of our Maine successes is Hazel. Hazel was at the LA/SPCA
shelter from February 2006 through August 2006. Today Hazel is
living the good life in Maine with her human companions, Pamela
Nieroda and James Giroux.
Pam
tells us that when Hazel first arrived in Maine it took her some
time to develop trust for her new humans and to overcome some of
her natural fears but before long and with the help of local dog
parks, beaches and lots of love, she's more outgoing, and
most of all, cuddly and lovable.
Just as some women like their men tall, dark and handsome, Hazel
has developed an affinity for Labs and they’ve become her
favorite playmates when frolicking in the dog park are running
along the coastal beaches.
Hazel’s
also adjusted to the difference in climate. It’s a far cry
colder in Maine than New Orleans but today Hazel is slowly
acclimating to the climate change. “She loves to play with her
favorite rope toys, and prefers big, soft floor pillows while
sitting or laying down in the sun as it peers through the
windows,” says Pam. “Hazel has been a blessing to Jim and I and
we are very grateful to have such a sweet and lovable pet!”
