Worst case of neglect

On Tuesday, May 4, 2004, Louisiana SPCA Humane Officers confiscated the above dog.

The 44-pound pit bull was severely emaciated with old scars and puncture wounds covering the dog’s head. Pus and maggots were teeming from the holes in the animal’s wounds which were so deep that the skull was visible and the tissue dead. The dog’s collar had grown deeply into the neck and infected deep holes were found in the hard palate and corner of his mouth, neck, and behind his ear. The dog was also heartworm positive, anemic, and infested with whipworms and hookworms.

Before being humanely euthanized the dog wagged its tail as the staff stroked and talked to him.
