Louisiana SPCA:
Tornado Response Update
NEW ORLEANS
(2/13/07) – Following Tuesday
morning’s tornados that hit parts of
the New Orleans Metro area, the
Louisiana SPCA has surveyed the
areas and is reporting that at this
time there are no animals in need of
rescue in the affected areas.
LA/SPCA Humane Officers have been
and will remain in constant
communication with the New Orleans
Fire Department (NOFD) to monitor
the situation.
Immediately following the tornados,
LA/SPCA had officers posted in four
sections of the city including the
Uptown Carrollton area and Gentilly.
All officers were ready to respond
immediately if NOFD found animals in
the affected areas.
LA/SPCA offered to have officers
assist NOFD if necessary in the
search of the areas and to remove
any animals found if necessary. NOFD
was given a direct number to call to
report any injured animals or
animals found in damaged homes so
that LA/SPCA could safely remove the
animal and document the location of
the animal for reunification with
the owner.
If the public needs to report an
animal emergency please call the
LA/SPCA at 504-368-5191 ext. 100.
