Director of Humane Education



Duties:

  • Research, design, implement, and sustain school year and summer humane education curriculum for elementary, middle and high school students

  • Evaluate and revise humane education curriculum to maximize the effectiveness of the program

  • Create and revise the pre and post tests used to measure the student progress throughout the curriculum

  • Supervise the implementation of curriculum during school year session which includes after school and Saturday sessions as well as all summer session programs

  • Recruit, oversee, and support the humane education instructors including those needed for the school year and summer programs

  • Design and oversee training of all humane education instructors (volunteer or paid)

  • Oversee the evaluation of the program humane education instructors and program participants

  • Create and maintain personnel files for humane education instructors

  • Document each instructor’s involvement and any evaluations done of them during their service to the program

  • Collect teacher and volunteer data for Program Evaluation process

  • Maintain demographic profiles for each group of summer and school year instructors and students

  • Develop and sustain community relationships (such as charter schools, universities, etc)


Professional Development

  • Attend and participate in professional development workshops and conferences related to the position

  • Participate in regular meeting with other program administrators

  • Create and maintain a binder with relevant documents and materials as related to the job specific duties


Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree required, Masters a Plus

  • Teaching Certification

  • Two years related professional experience required

  • Love of teaching and strong interest in animals

  • Understanding of humane education or desire to learn

  • A knowledge and interest in current pedagogy and methodology

  • Excellent communicating, networking, writing, and public speaking skills

  • Computer experience and confidence with word processing, database manipulation and internet

  • Awareness and appreciation of diversity

  • Committed, creative, energetic

  • Effective organization skills and attention to detail
