Volunteer Application

If you are signing up as a Team Volunteer, both adult and child  must fill out and submit a volunteer application. Please note, not all areas of volunteering are available to Teams.

Adoptions:

Client-Care at the Shelter
Check-in and accompany visitors as they look for a new companion. Explain the policies and procedures of adoption to potential adoptees and assist them...
 

Off-site Adoption Team
Assist with bathing and transporting adoptable animals. Set-up and breakdown off-site location. Talk with prospective adopters while they choose a new companion...
 

Web Pet and Printed Publications Project
Take pictures of the adoptable animals for the website, as well as various other outlets; including Craigslist, GambitWeekly, Petfinder.com. Write descriptions...
 


Animal Care:

Work directly with the animals at the shelter.

Exercising and socializing.  Dogs Cats Either


Building/Grounds Maintenance:

Mowing, raking, gardening and planting annual flowers and shrubs.

Painting, carpentry, plumbing and miscellaneous fix-it projects.


Community Outreach & Humane Education:

"Show and Tail" School Program (Not Available to Teams)
Take your dog into the classroom and teach children the basics of animal safety and responsible pet guardianship...

Information Circulation
set-up and literature distribution at local community events, education fairs and exhibits. Distribution and maintenance of LA/SPCA info...

Obedience "Wrangler" (Not Available to Teams)
Assist Dog Obedience instructor and students before and during training classes.


Events:

Pre-event committees and day-of event opportunities.


Foster Animal Care:

Provide temporary in-home care for special needs animals.


Fundraising:

Work with the Development Director designing and implementing fundraising programs. Organized individuals with...


Office:

Assist staff with office duties including answering questions about animal care, animal control and shelter policy and procedures.


Media, Marketing and Public Relations Team:

Help get the Louisiana SPCA's message out into the community.


Veterinary Clinic and Mobile Outreach Center: (Not Available to Teams)

Assist Vet-Techs cleaning kennels, feeding animals and greet/assist clients

In "signing" this application, with my e-mail address, I understand and agree to the following:

1.

My participation with the Louisiana SPCA is strictly on a volunteer basis, therefore no insurance against bodily harm is provided for me. I agree to release from liability the Louisiana SPCA, a non-profit organization, from any/all injuries or damages incurred during my participation in any program.

2.

I agree to abide by the policies and procedures presented to me during volunteer training and as updated thereafter.

3.

I understand that public relations is a big part of volunteering at the Louisiana SPCA, and agree that all photographs taken of me are the property of, and may be used by the Louisiana SPCA in their efforts.

4.

I will take ideas, constructive comments, suggestions and criticisms directly to the Volunteer Programs Coordinator or other supervisor.

5.

If communication problems develop between employees or other volunteers and me, as soon as possible, I will report these to the Volunteer Programs Coordinator.

6.

I agree not to provide information to (or about) former owners to prospective adopters unless my supervisor has approved divulging such information; and not to divulge confidential information to the public.

7.

I understand that my volunteer assignment may be terminated at any time at the discretion of the Volunteer Programs Coordinator or my supervisor.

8.

I understand that I am making a commitment and others are depending on me to fulfill that commitment. Should I not be able to meet my obligations I will communicate this to the Volunteer Programs Coordinator or my supervisor as soon as possible.

9.

I understand there is an orientation fee of $30.00 which covers the costs of a leash, apron and volunteer name badge. The fee is due at the completion of orientation.
