Hurricane Katrina and The Louisiana SPCA

REMEMBERING AND MOVING FORWARD

Naming of the Louisiana SPCA Campus

With fundraising at a vigorous pace, the LA/SPCA marked a major milestone in the organization’s history with a major gift from the Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation in New Orleans, a longtime supporter of the non-profit.

The Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation has been the largest single donor and supporter of the LA/SPCA throughout the history of the LA/SPCA, and over the years, their cumulative contributions have sustained the organization during some of its most difficult times. In fact, it was through the direct work of Mrs. Brown that resulted in the building of the former Japonica Street shelter, which was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina.

In Mrs. Brown’s honor, the 10.7 acre tract of land was officially named:

The Dorothy Dorsett Brown LA/SPCA Campus
