Adopt-A-Cat Month
Each June we celebrate Adopt-A-Cat month. The summer months bring LA/SPCA's biggest uptick in the shelter cat population. We have kittens, adolescents, adult cats - everything! To find forever homes for the many cats we have we are offering a special this month only. Come in to find your purr-fect match and we'll waive the adoption fee for a buddy. This Buddy Program is more than meets the eye. Cats show a reduced stress level when they live with a buddy to socialize and groom them. They adjust better to new situations when they have a companion, and older cats can teach kittens how to behave. Come by today to see our many cats - including some who have already found a buddy: Tom and Jerry, Laverne and Shirley, or Lucy and Ricky! See our adoptables. Learn more about our Buddy Program.

Staying Prepared
June also marks the beginning of Hurricane Season. As we hope for the best, we must prepare for the worst. The Governor's office offers great tips on how to prepare your family at www.getagameplan.org. The LA/SPCA also offers tips on including your pets in your plans. Pets are vulnerable during times of disaster and it is important they are not left behind. Practice loading them into a kennel and the car. You can check out which hotels are pet friendly before a disaster hits, and you can gather all pertinent documents prior to leaving. See more tips here, and check back often. We'll be updating our site to include information on how the oil spill will affect our area as well as any up to the minute information in the event a disaster does strike.

Pause 4 Dinner

On Thursday June 17, twenty restaurants in the New Orleans area will participate in the LA/SPCA's first dine out event. 20% of dinner proceeds from participating restaurants will be donated to the LA/SPCA. Check out our list of participating restaurants and make your reservations today. In addition The George Rodrigue Foundation for the Arts is making The Three Amigos, a brand new print from George Rodrigue, available via a silent auction at each participating location. Proceeds will benefit the LA/SPCA and the GRFA.

The Three Amigos
George Rodrigue's Blue Dog is obviously a perfect fit to encourage donations to animal welfare organizations. This month, the GRFA is introducing a brand new print available only to animal welfare organizations for fundraising purposes. The LA/SPCA is excited to partner with the GRFA to unveil this incredible new print. In addition to having the print available for silent auction at each participating Pause 4 Dinner restaurant, Mr. Rodrigue created a one-of-a-kind mixed media version to be auctioned off on CharityBuzz.com. Proceeds will benefit the GRFA and the LA/SPCA. Check out the mixed media version here, or visit a participating restaurant June 17 for your chance to own The Three Amigos.

CEO Corner

Hurricane preparations are a thought at the forefront of every organization during this time of year. It is important to remember your personal preparations as well. We offer great tips on how to prepare with your pets for potential hurricanes in our disaster section.

June is not just the beginning of hurricane season, it is also adopt-a-cat month. Too often the cats in our homes become ours by happenstance, while the cats and kittens we have in our shelter are still waiting for a forever home. If you or someone you know is looking to find a companion, ask them to check out our cats and kittens. This month only we are implementing a special Buddy Program. We are excited to see the impact this program will have on our cats, but we need your help to make it a success. Please spread the word and help us make Adopt-A-Cat month the happy ending our cats deserve.
