Call the LA/SPCA at 504.368.5191 ext 100. We have a dispatch officer on staff 24-hours a day. All calls will be responded to in the appropriate manner. Animals in distress are responded to immediately.

If your pet is in need of emergency care or any care outside of annual vaccinations please visit a veterinary clinic. For a list of clinic's in the area click here. The LA/SPCA is not equipped to provide care to your pet beyond basic annual examinations.

What do I do if I see a stray in my neighborhood?

Orleans Parish
Call the LA/SPCA at 504.368.5191 ext 100.  If the animal is injured, please let us know  because will respond immediately to animals in distress. We have a dispatcher on staff 24-hours a day. All calls will be responded to in the appropriate manner. 

We take animals in 24-hours a day. If you have a friendly stray dog or cat that you would like to personally bring to the shelter, we will have an LA/SPCA Animal Control staff member on-site to assist you.

What do I do if I need to dispose of animal remains? 

Orleans Parish
The sanitation contractor in your neighborhood can dispose of your pet's remains with the exception of Waste Management. If you see a disposed of animal on Orleans Parish public roads notify the Orleans Parish Sanitation Department at 504.658.3800.

Richard's Disposal services a portion of Orleans Parish. For a map of their route please click here. The instructions for animal removal for Richard's are:

"Dogs, cats, and other small animals will only be collected from households and small businesses if the animal is put in a bag and brought to the curb for collection with solid waste. Richard's Disposal will not go on private property for collection of dead animals. If you notify Richard's Disposal of your need before noon they will remove the animal the same day."

The sanitation department handles the pick-up of deceased animals in Jefferson Parish. Please call 504.736.6440 to schedule a pick-up.

What do I do if I need cremation services for my pet?

The LA/SPCA offers cremation for your pet. You will have peace of mind knowing your pet was treated humanely and compassionately in his/her last resting place. Unfortunately, the LA/SPCA will not return pet remains to the owner. To schedule an appointment with the LA/SPCA for this service please call 504.368.5191. The fee for this service is $25 for pets 0-49 pounds and $50 for animals 50 pounds and over.

Heaven's Pets provides total pet death care, cremation and bereavement services to anyone who has lost his or her pet.

What do I do if I have a wildlife issue?

The LA/SPCA is not contracted to remove or accept any wildlife. Wildlife is considered to be any species that has not been domesticated; this includes raccoons, possums, birds, snakes, foxes or coyotes. Please contact a Pest Control company or the Wildlife and Fisheries department to address any issues you may have with wildlife.
