We are the leading animal welfare organization in the state of Louisiana. As a 501(c)3 non-profit our mission is propelled by wonderful volunteers and supporters. We are committed to improving the quality of life for all of the animals we encounter daily through shelter, love, and compassion. The Louisiana SPCA is not affiliated with any other entity and does not receive regular funding from any other Humane Societies or SPCAs.

Hours of Operation:

Adoptions Monday - Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 12pm-4pm.
Animal surrender - Monday-Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 12pm-5pm.
You can bring stray animals to us before 9am and after 5pm at our back gate located on Mardi Gras Blvd. For directions to our Animal Rescue and Care Center click here.

Garden District Book Shop Booksigning (Updated)

Garden District Book Shop signing….Nell Dickerson, author of the photography book, Porch Dogs, will be signing her new book at the Garden District Book Shop (2727 Prytania St.) from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.

This event will be paired with a creative, dog-friendly event jointly hosted by the Louisiana SPCA. Recently featured in Garden & Gun’s” Talk of the South”newsletter, the book was called “beautiful and charming” by Temple Grandin, author of Animals in Translation and Animals Make Us Human. Robert Hicks, author of Widow of the South, writes there is no “better way to celebrate and honor the love of dogs than through Nell’s lens.”

Neighborhood Pet Adoption (Updated)

Find a constant companion from the LA/SPCA off-site adoption team. Adoption counselors and volunteers will be on hand to help you select the right pet for your family. We have a variety of four-legged friends waiting for a forever home!

Can't attend, then drop by the shelter; adoption hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday-Saturday and noon-4:00pm Sunday.
