WENDY

Sometime in 1992? ~ May 10, 2005

She came into my life on Ash Wednesday, February 27, 1993.
The day after Mardi Gras.

I pulled into Wendy’s to pick up a quick salad for dinner that clear, crisp evening and, as I sat at the drive-up window, this graceful, long-legged, red hound approached my open window.
Her pitch was more expert (and effective) than the best of salesmen. Her tail wagging and smiling with her beautiful white teeth; her big, round, cognac-colored eyes outlined perfectly in black liner by God, radiating joy and hope. Joy in living and hope that I would provide her with one of the hamburgers she smelled in the exhaust from the restaurant.

That encounter began a wonderful, 12+ year relationship for me.
Wendy and I went through graduate and obedience school together, met and fell in love with Grant who would become our Alpha dog (or so we let him believe), welcomed a new baby into the pack whom she adored and protected, started two businesses together (she was my office manager ~ her professional duties consisted mostly of pressing & warming the cushions and asking to be let in, out, in, out, in….well, you get the picture).

Images of the past 12 years have come flooding back to me in a series of happy scenes of laughter and love with this remarkable gift of a being.
Dogs can see people’s inner light.
Wendy saw yours and she loved you.

WE LOVE WENDY.
LOVE NEVER DIES.

~ Mary Liz
