Shelby
Our little girl Shelby was one of those typical
temperamental Cocker Spaniels with a big attitude, but once you made
friends you were friends for life. On New Years Day 2001, Shelby had
a problem walking. After a trip to the emergency vet, and a visit to
our regular vet the next morning, we ended up at Southeast Vet
Clinic. That’s where our long journey began. Shelby started a
regiment of physical therapy three times a week, including whirlpool
therapy and massage therapy. Shelby never understood that she was
handicapped. Even with her wheelchair, she ran, she chased animals
in the yard, and participated in the SPCA Dog Walk for three years
in a row. Shelby came to think of Southeast as a second home. In
July 2004 she was diagnosed with cancer, and we proceeded with chemo
treatments. Shelby was a trouper through it all. She never got sick,
but she did have her bad days. Our main problem was when to say
enough is enough. Shelby let us know when it was time. We let our
girl go with her doctors, her therapist, and the two of us in the
room. We still miss her, and will never forget the joy that she
brought to our lives.
With Love,
Dee & Wendy
